ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Police are investigating a crash on
Interstate 5 south of Albany that killed a woman on Thanksgiving.
Oregon State Police say the victim was driving a sport utility
vehicle southbound when it collided into the rear of another
vehicle with two occupants. The SUV rolled through the median and
came to rest on its wheels blocking both northbound traffic lanes.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of her
family.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Curry County sheriff’s deputies think
chain saw injuries killed a 25-year-old logger from Medford.
Teodoro Ponce-Leon was found lying next to a chain saw with neck
and facial injuries Wednesday. He was working with a logging crew
in the Chetco River drainage on land owned by the federal Bureau of
Land Management. He was reported alive when police were called, but
medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police have identified a
72-year-old woman who was killed in a crash north of Coquille in
southern Oregon on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say Judy Lea
Kollen was fatally injured after her Geo Tracker collided with a
Ford Explorer when she tried to make a U-turn across a wet highway.
The crash also injured five people in the Explorer, including three
young children. One child was airlifted to a hospital.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Police have arrested one person and are
searching for two or three more after an altercation between two
college students ended in a stabbing near the University of Oregon
campus in Eugene. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries
that are not life-threatening. KEZI-TV reports alcohol is believed
to be a factor. Police are searching for two or three people
believed to have been present during the stabbing.
