EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Supporters of fired University of Oregon
President Richard Lariviere (la-RIV-ee-AIR’) plan a noon rally
today in front of the administration building in Eugene. The
Oregonian also reports the faculty assembly plans an emergency
assembly tomorrow. The state Board of Education voted to fire
Lariviere at yesterday’s meeting, saying he lost its trust by
pushing for more independence for the university at the expense of
the state’s six other campuses.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office
wants to hear from anyone who was on a bicycle path late
Thanksgiving night and may know something about the slaying of a
homeless woman. The body of 50-year-old Dana Crippen was found
early Friday on the path under Johnson Creek Boulevard west of
I-205. Sheriff’s Sgt. James Rhodes tells The Oregonian Crippen
recently took part in the Occupy Portland encampment.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Corvallis police arrested five Oregon
State University fraternity members caught cutting down a Christmas
tree. Officers noticed men running and hiding Sunday night outside
a Corvallis School District building, the Harding Center. Police
tell the Corvallis Gazette-Times the men admitted cutting down a
20-foot blue spruce and said they planned to use it as the
Christmas tree at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland woman says someone stole two of
her pet rabbits and left a note saying they’d be in better hands.
Fiona Petra tells KATU the rabbits were taken over the weekend from
outside her home. In their place was a note from the HALO League.
HALO stands for Helping Animals Live Outside. One of the rabbits
was found yesterday but the other is still missing.
