Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Washington County sheriff’s deputies say
they’ve arrested a man and a woman who were seen taking packages
that had been delivered at homes near Hillsboro. Deputies found
several packages in a car yesterday and arrested a Hillsboro man
and an Aloha woman on theft charges. The packages were similar to
ones taken after they were dropped off on porches by UPS or FedEx
delivery trucks.

LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) – Police in Longview, Wash., say they’ve
arrested a man sought after a shoplifting suspect hacked an ear off
a security guard at a Fred Meyer store. Adrian Kramer was arrested
last night in nearby Kelso to be booked into jail for investigation
of assault, robbery, burglary and theft. The Daily News reported
the 33-year-old victim had surgery to reattach the ear at Oregon
Health and Science University in Portland and was discharged Monday
night.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard is investigating what
caused a crab fishing boat to capsize this week, leaving one of the
three crewmen missing. The World newspaper reports that the fishing
vessel Randi was loaded with crab pots when it went over Monday
about three miles north of the entrance to Coos Bay. Jim Peterson
of Coos Bay was in the wheelhouse. Two other crewmen were saved,
but he was not found.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police Superintendent Chris
Brown says he’s proud of the advances the agency made in technology
under his watch, but said the state’s grim fiscal picture left him
feeling frustrated as he tried to add troopers to the force. The
51-year-old Brown announced his retirement yesterday, just a day
after Gov. John Kitzhaber cancelled a new class of state troopers
as part of a cost-cutting measure.
