SEATTLE (AP) – When Colton Harris-Moore broke into Kyle Ater’s
grocery store in Washington’s San Juan Islands, he wrote a message
in chalk on the floor: “C-Ya!” Turns out the Barefoot Bandit was
right. Harris-Moore will see Ater and other victims today in Island
County Superior Court, where he is expected to plead guilty to
about 30 state charges from a two-year, cross-country crime spree.
Prosecutors are seeking a 10-year prison sentence.
OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) – The embattled city manager of a small
Oregon town rocked by a budget crisis has resigned. The Oakridge
City Council accepted Gordon Zimmerman’s immediate resignation last
night, minutes after a motion to terminate him with cause failed.
The Register-Guard reports that Zimmerman will receive two months’
pay and medical coverage – about $12,000. He did not attend the
meeting. Oakridge is a town of about 3,700.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A detective has testified in a
Clackamas County murder case that a police sergeant offered $2,000
to a friend to plot the death of the sergeant’s estranged spouse.
The sergeant is Lynn Benton. Detective Brad Edwards of Oregon City
testified yesterday in a court hearing in the case against Susan
Ellen Campbell, who has been indicted on a murder charge in the May
28 killing of Deborah Higbee Benton.
DAMASCUS, Ore. (AP) – Court records show that a man arrested
Wednesday in a Clackamas County killing is married to the former
wife of the victim. The Oregonian reports that 34-year-old Jonathan
David Waldorf had been involved in a custody dispute with Stevanie
Pico earlier this year. They were divorced in 2007. Pico’s husband,
29-year-old Marcos Andres Pico, was to be arraigned yesterday on a
murder charge. He’s being held without bail.
