PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gerald Wallace had 25 points, eight
rebounds and five assists, leading the Portland Trail Blazers to a
101-79 win over the Sacramento Kings last night. LaMarcus Aldridge
had 24 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers. Nicolas Batum
(bah-TOOM’) added 15 points and five rebounds off the bench.
DeMarcus Cousins led the way for Sacramento with 16 points and 11
rebounds. Marcus Thornton added 14 points.
SEATTLE (AP) – Asked about the state of the Pac-12 Conference
with league play about to begin, Washington basketball coach
Lorenzo Romar said he’s got too many problems of his own to figure
out before trying to solve the league’s woes. Such is the state of
the Huskies as they prepare to begin Pac-12 play tomorrow night in
a home game against Oregon State. UW finished the majority of its
non-conference slate at 6-5 with one out-of-conference game left
against Seattle next month. That’s the worst pre-conference play
record since 2002-03.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Wisconsin and Oregon both returned to the
Rose Bowl this week determined to succeed after losing on their
last trips. But first, they had to conquer the Matterhorn and some
whirling teacups. The No. 6 Ducks and the ninth-ranked Badgers
descended on Disneyland yesterday for the traditional start to Rose
Bowl week festivities. Wisconsin lost last season’s Rose Bowl to
TCU; Oregon lost two years ago to Ohio State.
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Renovations to the Rose Bowl in
Pasadena, Calif., aren’t expected to affect “The Granddaddy of
Them All” between the Oregon Ducks and the Wisconsin Badgers on
Monday. The 89-year-old stadium is undergoing a $160 million
renovation that includes the additions of a new press box and
luxury seats.
