Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland transit police have arrested an
11-year-old boy who displayed a loaded gun during a dispute on a
light rail train last night. A group of boys and girls had a
dispute with another passenger after one of the boys bumped into
her baby stroller when they boarded the train. Police say that
during the argument with the baby’s mother, an 11-year-old boy
displayed a gun in his waistband. The woman called 911 and the
train stopped downtown, and officers found the .22 caliber handgun.
ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County sheriff’s office says
the man arrested in a fatal shooting at an Aloha grocery store and
the victim knew each other. But investigators aren’t yet disclosing
a possible motive yesterday’s that left a 25-year-old dead on the
sidewalk in front of Aloha Bales Thriftway. Deputies found a car
that fled the scene and arrested 52-year-old Jeff Johnson. He was
jailed on murder and gun charges.
ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters and sheriff’s officers have
rescued a man from a car submerged in high water near two storm-fed
rivers in Albany. Fire officials say the man stayed alive yesterday
afternoon by breathing from a 6-inch air bubble trapped near the
vehicle’s ceiling. Only the car’s roof was visible. The man was
taken to a hospital and is in unknown condition.
ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – The water department in Roseburg is
stumped. It’s been losing 2 million gallons a day to a leak that
workers haven’t been able to trace. City workers haven’t found any
big pools of water and say the leak could be in a lot of
not-so-obvious places, such as a vacant retail store. A leak
detection company has been hired at $1,200 a day. City officials
tell the Roseburg News-Review that the leak and another located
last week stem from heavy rains that stressed the system with a
muddy supply and caused reservoir fluctuations.
