PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Voters in northwest Oregon will learn who
will represent them in Congress as a special election wraps up
Tuesday. Ballots are due by 8 p.m., in county-run drop boxes, and
election officials say they’ll release the first results at that
time. Former Rep. David Wu resigned from Congress in August after a
newspaper reported that the 18-year-old daughter of a campaign
donor accused the seven-term Democrat of making an unwanted sexual
advance.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – Sheriff’s officers and search and rescue teams
in central Oregon have rescued two Bend residents who got stranded
in their vehicle on a snowy Forest Service road. Deschutes County
sheriff’s Deputy Rhett Hemphill said 35-year-old Jeremiah Budish
and 47-year-old Nancy Walker has been driving toward Sunriver when
they got stuck Monday morning.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – January storms have provided a dramatic
boost to Oregon’s previously anemic snowpack. Hydrologist Jon Lea
with the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service tells The
Oregonian (http://is.gd/ltjJgj ) that Oregon’s combined basins
snowpack on Jan. 14 was only 35 percent of average. On Monday it
was 70 percent of average.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The AAA auto club reports the average
price of gasoline in Oregon is $3.48. That’s up 1 cent in a week
and 9 cents in a month. It’s 5 cents higher than the national
average. Prices for some metro areas from Monday’s AAA survey were
$3.47 for both Portland and Salem, $3.53 for Eugene-Springfield and
$3.55 for Medford-Ashland.
