SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Paul Millsap scored 19 points and grabbed
15 rebounds, and the Utah Jazz used a 13-0 fourth-quarter run to
beat the Portland Trail Blazers 93-89 on Monday night. LaMarcus
Aldridge led Portland with 25 points, including 14 in the third
quarter as the Blazers built an 11-point lead. But the Jazz fought
back, even without starting center Al Jefferson and guard Raja
Bell, who did not play because of injuries.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Forward Kris Boyd, the Scottish Premier
League’s all-time leading scorer, is joining Major League Soccer’s
Portland Timbers. Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson announced
the signing of the Irvine, Scotland, native on Monday.
SEATTLE (AP) – The Mariners are making some roof repairs at
Safeco Field. The retractable roof failed to close for the FanFest
activities over the weekend because of a broken axle. Operations
people say they have the equipment and parts to fix the roof this
week.
KENAI, Alaska (AP) – Cim Smyth is the winner of this year’s
Tustumena 200 sled dog race. The Peninsula Clarion reports
(http://bit.ly/zJH2vI) Smyth of Big Lake edged musher Jeff King of
Denali Park by seven minutes to win the race Sunday. The Tustumena
200 started Saturday just south of Kasilof. Mushers went to Homer,
and then finished at the start point.
