MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The autopsy on a 14-year-old Medford girl
who died Saturday after inhaling helium at a party shows she died
of an air embolism. The state Medical Examiner’s Office ruled
Ashley Long’s death was accidental. Inhaling the gas from a
pressurized canister caused air bubbles that entered her blood
stream, causing the fatal blockage. The Mail Tribune reports she
also was drinking with several other teens at an apartment.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An airline passenger who refused to turn
off an electronic cigarette could face a federal charge in
Portland. The FBI says the man was held yesterday after he was
taken off a Continental Airlines flight that had returned to
Portland International Airport a half hour after taking off for
Houston. E-cigarettes are not specifically prohibited by the TSA
but are banned by Continental Airlines.
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – An Allegiant flight from Phoenix to
Bellingham safely made an emergency landing last night at Klamath
Falls with a generator malfunction. The 154 passengers waited at
Klamath Falls Airport for a relief flight. Allegiant told the
Herald and News the pilot of the MD-80 felt diverting the flight
was the safest thing to do.
DALLAS, Ore. (AP) – Drummer Deen Castronovo from the rock group
Journey has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service in
Oregon and ordered to attend anger-management classes for a
domestic violence dispute. The Statesman Journal reports the
sentence yesterday was based on court documents from a diversion
agreement. The 47-year-old was arrested Jan. 20 after a dispute in
West Salem with a woman he had accused of cheating on him.
