SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man with restraining orders from
eight people is accused of running his former boss off the road
during the weekend and holding her against her will with a gun. KGW
reports police say 35-year-old Nicholas Librande was arrested
yesterday and had a ninth restraining order placed on him after the
incident in Salem. Librande has restraining orders in Multnomah,
Marion, Polk, Linn, and Washington counties. Washington County
Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Ray says he’s afraid “someone’s going to get
really hurt.”
CLATSKANIE, Ore. (AP) – The landmark Hump’s restaurant at
Clatskanie served its last meals yesterday after six decades
cooking up chicken fried steak and hospitality to local residents
and travelers along Highway 30. Owners Eric and Pam Sellix had been
looking to lease or sell the restaurant, but with no takers they
decided to close so they could retire. Both are 68 and plan to
travel.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon lawmakers will make a final push this
week to find an agreement that would allow all of them to declare
victory and leave town before Wednesday’s self-imposed deadline.
With the budget and Gov. John Kitzhaber’s Medicaid reform plan all
but crossed off the list, the focus turns squarely to other issues.
Those include: A health insurance exchange, Kitzhaber’s education
initiatives and Republican efforts to increase logging and take
more water from the Columbia River.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Since the Body Worlds exhibit opened at
the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, 39 people have
volunteered to have their bodies put on display after they die. The
display features real bodies of people and animals in a way their
shows their muscles. The exhibit features information on the brain.
One man who hopes to donate his body told KATU that if his body
parts go on exhibit, he’d like to have them labeled so his
grandkids will know which parts are grandpa’s.
