MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Wes Johnson scored 19 points to back Kevin
Love’s 29 points and 16 rebounds in the Minnesota Timberwolves’
106-94 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Johnson went 3 of 4 on
3-pointers and Luke Ridnour added 22 points for the Timberwolves,
who moved into the eighth spot in the Western Conference playoff
race. They own the tiebreaker over Houston.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Devon Collier scored 19 points, Eric Moreland
scored all 11 of his points in the second half and high-scoring
Oregon State excelled in a defensive struggle for a 69-64 win over
Washington State in the opening round of the Pac-12 tournament.
Oregon State will face top-seeded Washington today. The Beavers’
Jared Cunningham had two points in each half.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Brandi Thomas scored 17 points and Carly
Noyes 10 to lead Washington State to a 65-56 victory over Oregon
State in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament last night. The
11th-seeded Cougars advanced to play No. 3 seed Southern California
in a quarterfinal contest scheduled for today. Ali Gibson scored 19
points to lead the sixth-seeded Beavers.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Jazmine Davis scored 23 points and Regina
Rogers finished with 21 as Washington defeated Oregon 72-56 in the
opening game of the Pac-12 women’s tournament. The Huskies, the
eighth seed in the tournament, have won four of their last five
games, and earned a second-round game against No. 2 Stanford.
Jasmin Holliday led Oregon with 17 points.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) – Seattle right-hander Blake Beavan, a
favorite for a back-end rotation spot, allowed two hits in four
scoreless innings as the Mariners beat the Angels 6-4. Angels ace
Jered Weaver allowed three hits in two scoreless innings in his
first spring start. Seattle scored first in the seventh when Angels
right-hander Loek Van Mil mishandled Trayvon Robinson’s bunt and
threw wildly to first, allowing Luis Rodriguez to score from
second.

SEATTLE (AP) – Brad Evans headed in a free kick early in the
63rd minute, and the Seattle Sounders edged Santos Laguna of Mexico
2-1 in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League
quarterfinal series last night. David Estrada scored for Seattle
midway through the 12th minute, and Herculez Gomez got the
equalizer for Santos Laguna early in the 61st – only to have Evans
answer less than two minutes later. The second leg of the
aggregate-goals series is March 14 in Torreon, Mexico.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Four-time Iditarod champion Martin
Buser is the first Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race musher to reach the
checkpoint at Ophir, Alaska. About an hour later yesterday was his
22-year-old son, Rohn. By last night, they were joined at the
checkpoint 550 miles from Nome by musher Jim Lanier and then Trent
Herbst. Sixty-six mushers are competing.
