PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Siltronic says it will lay off 350
employees this summer from a Portland factory that makes
semiconductor wafers. KGW reports a notice was sent last week to
the Oregon Dislocated Worker Unit. Most of the jobs being cut are
production operator positions.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Three people accused of stealing goods
donated to the Columbia-Willamette Goodwill have been sentenced.
Jason Baca, Goodwill worker Robert Holloway, and Melissa Baca
pleaded guilty earlier this month. Washington County deputies
investigating a tip went to Jason Baca’s home in November and found
10 big screen TVs, hundreds of shoes, and thousands of DVDs, CDs
and video games.
GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Video from Gresham Skate World has led to
the arrest of a woman suspected of crashing a birthday party for a
10-year-old girl at the skating rink and stealing from purses of
family members. KATU reports the suspect seen in Saturday’s video,
Kamila Joy Rhodes, was convicted of similar burglary and theft
charges in 2009 when she was accused of stealing wallets from
church members. Among the people who recognized Rhodes on the video
were the pastor of Gresham’s Sanctuary Church, Russ Bailey, and the
grand jury foreman from the 2009 case.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland firefighters responding to a 911
call from a woman who said her horse had fallen into an old septic
tank found a 34-year-old Quarter Horse stuck with only her head
above ground level. The department’s rope team quickly rigged up a
pulley system that firefighters used to help lift the horse
vertically and then forward from the hole. The old horse was
visibly stressed and shaking but able to walk on her own to her
barn after a bath.
