HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Washington County deputies have arrested a 36-year-old man accused of cutting his home’s natural gas line in an attempt to harm his wife and four children. James Speidel of the small Portland-area town of Bethany was jailed last night on $1 million bail.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Lane County sheriff’s officers say human remains have been found on land bordering a landfill south of Eugene. Officials tell The Register-Guard it appears the body has been there since before last fall. Investigators say the remains are likely those of one of three missing local adults. Dental records are being checked.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – A Nebraska sex offender with a history of registration violations has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison. The U.S. Attorney says 36-year-old Joseph Reynolds must serve five years of supervised release after he leaves prison. His record includes convictions in Nebraska, Oregon and Washington for failing to properly register.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – State environmental regulators say a trash incinerator north of Salem that produces electricity must meet new, stricter pollution requirements as it renews its air pollution permit. The Salem Statesman Journal reports the Covanta Marion incinerator burns an average of 550 tons of garbage and medical waste a day to produce 13 megawatts of power.
