BEND, Ore. (AP) – Police say two people went through Bend residential garbage to find documents they used to create fake IDs and fraudulent checks. Eric Lysne and Laura Randall were arraigned Wednesday on identity theft charges in Deschutes County Circuit Court. The Bulletin reports one victim says nine fraudulent checks totaling $1,800 were written on her account. Most were used at a grocery store to purchase gift cards.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A 19-year-old Milwaukie woman who was left in an Oregon City street by a hit-and-run driver has died of her injuries at a Portland hospital. Police are looking for the driver who hit Christina Harmon on Wednesday night. Police told The Oregonian there were no skid marks. Investigators are hoping to hear from a witness who could identify the driver.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Jackson County prosecutors have dropped the animal abuse charge against a 17-year-old Shady Cove boy accused of setting a cat on fire. The office says the teen has an alibi for the time the cat was burned in December and investigators could not disprove it. Residents at Eagle Point, near Medford, who had been feeding the stray discovered burns on its face and beneath its tail. The cat was treated at a shelter and recovered.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Board of Education is considering a rule that would ban Indian mascots and logos at schools. The rule would force changes at 8 state high schools with teams known as the Indians, Braves or Chieftains. Seven other schools known as the Warriors would be able to keep that name as long as no Native American images were associated with it. The public has until May 17 to comment on the proposed rule.
