EAGLE POINT, Ore. (AP) – Eagle Point school employees are on strike as the two sides negotiate. The Eagle Point Education Association said the strike began at 6 a.m. today, and that negotiators who worked all night were still talking past the deadline. The district near Medford has 328 employees, including 186 teachers.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County jail deputy who smashed a drunken inmate into a wall and threw him to the floor has been sentenced to 30 days in jail. A jury convicted Troy Steiner of fourth-degree assault and official misconduct for roughing up 64-year-old Gary Baumgardner in 2010. Steiner said Baumgardner was aggressive and threatened to harm him.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – More parents in Oregon are choosing not to have their children vaccinated against diseases. The trend has been rising for a dozen years and KATU reports that nearly 6 percent of kindergarteners this school year had a religious exemption for at least one vaccine.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A missing psychiatric patient from the Oregon State Hospital has been taken into custody in California near the Oregon border. Oregon State Police say 40-year-old Martie K. Mitchell was on unauthorized leave since Friday. She was found late yesterday hiding in a Tulelake home.
