PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Police Bureau has called a news conference today to announce the cold case unit has solved three homicides. The victims were killed in 1980 and 1981.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police are looking for a suspect in a fatal shooting at home in northeast Portland. Officers responded to a report of gunfire late last night and found a man’s body.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 77-year-old man was handcuffed and taken to jail after he pleaded guilty in Lane County to growing marijuana on his property near Cottage Grove. The Register-Guard reports Jerry Fruichantie was sentenced to 15 days in jail as part of an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty to a felony charge. In January, Fruichantie’s son was shot and killed in what detectives suspect was a drug-related robbery.
LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) – An Eastern Oregon University student whose skull was fractured during a softball practice is suing the university for almost $1 million. In a complaint filed in Union County Circuit Court, Holly Martin claims she sustained life-changing injuries as a result of being struck in the head by a ball in 2010 at the university. The La Grande Observer reports the school says any damages were caused by Martin’s own negligence.
