West Salem held the Three Rivers Sandblasters scoreless for a five-run shutout win in Florence last night. The ‘Blasters managed six hits in the American Legion baseball contest, but never got a base-runner past 2nd. West Salem’s Post 20 put up eight hits and capitalized on four Sandblasters errors for the win.
In Eugene Jimmy Rider drove in the winning run with a shallow pop fly that landed just inside the left-field foul line in the bottom of the ninth, lifting Kent State to a 3-2 win over Oregon. The Ducks had rallied in the eighth to come from behind and tie it at two-all, but the Golden Flashes used the small-ball in the top of the ninth to manufacture the eventual winning run. The loss ended Oregon’s season with a 46-19 record.
