PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The free ride may be ending for TriMet’s MAX trains and city streetcars in downtown Portland. The TriMet board is voting today on ending the free rail zone, and the city Bureau of Transportation is expected to follow.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Residents of the hilly Portland neighborhood near the Oregon Zoo are asking the city to declare it a skateboard-free zone. A neighborhood group says on some days there are hundreds of skateboarders speeding down streets. Three recent crashes have neighbors worried about more-serious accidents. The Portland council takes up the issue later this month.

EAGLE POINT, Ore. (AP) – A member of the Eagle Point School Board is being asked to resign by other members of the board who say he took part in last month’s employee strike. Board Chairman Scott Grissom says Mark Bateman violated board policy by publicly protesting. Bateman denies the accusation and says he only held an informal meeting with some of the strikers. The board meets tonight.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Michael Gottfredson took a tour of the University of Oregon campus yesterday to meet students, faculty and staff at the university he’s expected to lead. The state Board of Higher Education votes Friday on hiring Gottfredson. He would replace Richard Lariviere (lah-RIHV’-ee-ayr) who was fired in November after friction with the board.
