PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The former aide who says Oregon state Rep. Matt Wingard pressured her to have sex is speaking publicly for the first time. Now 23, Samantha Berrier (behr-ee-AY’) said in an interview yesterday that Wingard abused his power. Berrier says she backed away from a text message she sent to investigators saying she was drugged and now says there’s no evidence. But she stands behind her allegations that Wingard pressured her to have sex. Wingard has apologized but maintains the sex was consensual.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge today holds two hearings in a dispute between two unions over which workers should plug-in and unplug refrigerated shipping containers at the Port of Portland. The standoff has ignited a slowdown at the port. Hanjin Shipping says containers bound for Portland will be dropped in Seattle instead. It’s the second company to bypass Portland because of the dispute.
PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – A central Oregon sheriff’s officer says a hiker who fell and broke her leg has been rescued and airlifted to a hospital. Crook County sheriff’s Sgt. James Savage says deputies as well as county search and rescue teams yesterday went to help Julie Packard, who was injured 4 ½ miles from a trailhead in a remote area of central Oregon. They carried her to the trail head and she was airlifted to a hospital.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Medford leaders are calling for a cooling-off period in a dispute over control of a regional public radio network. Jefferson Public Radio is heard on a vast network of stations, some owned by Southern Oregon University and others by the Jefferson Public Radio Foundation. An audit has warned the foundation’s non-radio projects could overextend Jefferson Public Radio, putting the university at risk.
