EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Federal authorities say an Oregon ex-convict stole the identity of a former fellow inmate and used the information to get a $400 federal tax return in the man’s name. The Register Guard reports postal inspectors believe Randolph Del Calhoun Nelson fraudulently obtained federal income tax refunds for three other fellow inmates. Nelson has pleaded not guilty.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -Tri-Met is investigating a report that one of its drivers ordered a mother and her four crying children off a Portland-area bus earlier this month. The Oregonian says a Forest Grove police officer called to the dispute tried to reason with the driver but eventually took the family home in his police car. Tri-Met says the unidentified driver has been placed on administrative leave.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a man is in critical condition after he apparently shot himself in the neck during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 south of Portland. Police say a trooper stopped the 59-year-old man yesterday evening in Tualatin for a vehicle license violation. The man apparently shot himself while the trooper was in his patrol car writing the ticket.

CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office says a 12-year-old boy made up a story about being bound and tied with shoelaces to cover for coming home late. Sgt. Adam Phillips says the boy found bound at his wrists and ankles June 6 actually had tied himself up. When he couldn’t escape, he panicked and began crying. The Oregonian reports police don’t plan to file charges.
