PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Agricultural exporters are paying higher prices to ship their goods because of a labor dispute at the Port of Portland. Companies such as hay and feed products exporter SL Follen of Portland are paying upwards of $1,000 per container to reroute their cargo to Seattle. Two unions involved in the dispute returned to talks yesterday.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police have arrested a 24-year-old man suspected in a hit-and-run that injured a security guard in a Rose Quarter parking lot. The guard, 44-year-old Elizabeth Forcia of Aurora, was checking on the suspicious vehicle yesterday morning when the driver ran her down and fled. The fleeing car crashed into a utility pole and the man ran off on foot. Forcia was treated at a hospital and released.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The second in command at Jefferson Public Radio has been named interim executive director to succeed the ousted longtime leader, Ron Kramer. Southern Oregon University President Mary Cullinan says Paul Westhelle will succeed Kramer, who was dismissed effective Friday in a dispute over control of the stations heard in Northern California and Southern Oregon.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – The Hillsboro City Council approved an agreement to bring the Yakima Bears baseball team to the city and finance a new $14 million stadium. The owners of the Class A team still need the approval of baseball officials to make the move. The Oregonian reports the agreement calls for the team to pay the city at least $150,000 a year for rent on the stadium.
