Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Auditors with the secretary of state’s office say Oregon now has more than 250 boards and commissions, although the exact number couldn’t be determined. KATU reports that the audit recommends better oversight, because there’s no central listing and contact information for some boards is not readily accessible. In the last legislative session, 24 new boards were created and 8 were eliminated.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A hiker has been rescued from the mountains west of Bend after he became separated from his companions and called for help on his cellphone. Search and rescue personnel were able to get enough information from 57-year-old William Aue’s call yesterday afternoon to locate him up in an area west of Broken Top Mountain. He was escorted back to his hiking companions.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say a street confrontation between two young men in the southwest part of the city ended with a man in his 20s being fatally stabbed. A 19-year-old man found at the scene yesterday evening was detained by officers. An autopsy is planned on the body today.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – A green sea turtle found ill last week in the surf at an Oregon beach is improving at the Oregon Coast Aquarium at Newport. The aquarium’s Stuart Clausen tells KVAL-TV that says it’s too soon to tell when the turtle will be able to return to the ocean. The turtle had an internal body temperature of 58 when he arrived at the aquarium.
