PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A 310-turbine project proposed on 61,000 acres near Heppner in Morrow County would produce up to 504 megawatts, according to its developer. The East Oregonian reports that the wind-power project also would generate substantial lease payments for landowners. The region’s economic strength is due in part to its agricultural output and other industries.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An analysis by The Oregonian has found the formula used to calculate pension for thousands of retired Oregon public employees can be milked to deliver benefits that far outstrip the Legislature’s intent and taxpayers’ expectations. The newspaper says the problem is rooted in what gets counted as final salary in determining an employee’s pension. That final salary can include everything from overtime, vacation lump pay, perks and other incentives, boosting an employee’s wage.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – President Barack Obama will not be holding a public event during a trip to Portland tomorrow. The president will meet supporters at an invitation-only fundraiser at the Oregon Convention Center. A press release says the event was canceled for scheduling reasons.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A spiritual healer from Eugene who was convicted of killing his brother-in-law has been sentenced to a Nevada prison. A prosecutor told The Register-Guard newspaper that 27-year-old Timothy Morgan could serve more than 30 years but it’s likely he will be released on parole in 13 years. In May, a Nevada jury convicted Morgan of second-degree murder in the death of brother-in-law Eric Preimesberger.
