PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon inmate mistakenly released from a Portland jail earlier this week has turned himself in. Multnomah County sheriff’s deputies tell The Oregonian that members of a warrant strike team called Stephen Jamaal Reed yesterday and he surrendered late last night. Reed was less than three months into a 19-month prison sentence for dealing heroin. He appeared in court in a different drug case Monday, was sentenced to probation and mistakenly set free.
COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) — A bicycle rider is recovering from injuries suffered when he was struck by a car on Highway 101 near Coos Bay. State Police say the 52-year-old man was taken to a hospital yesterday with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the driver is a 62-year-old woman from Langlois. Police say her husband drove to the scene of the accident while impaired. He was booked into the Coos County jail on a DUI charge.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A police car was involved in a four-vehicle rear-end chain collision in Salem. Police say the officer was unable to stop for traffic that had come to a halt yesterday afternoon behind a stalled car. One of the drivers complained of pain but did not have to be taken to a hospital.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – Sheriff’s officers in central Oregon are looking for the owner of an emaciated horse found wandering south of Bend. Deschutes County deputies answering a call about a wandering horse found the animal early Sunday. The extremely thin quarter horse gelding appeared not to have had any food or water for some time. Deputies say the horse they’re calling “Maverick” is recovering at the sheriff’s livestock rescue facility.
