SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A popular spot on tours of the Capitol in Salem is the vault in the state treasurer’s office. It was built in the 1930s and the massive steel door is 2 feet thick. The Statesman Journal reports they don’t bother locking the vault these days. It hasn’t been used for over a decade. Electronic banking as made it obsolete.
COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – The Forest Service has turned off the water at the showers at the Horsefall Beach campground near Coos Bay. The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area says the showers have been exceeding the capacity for the campground’s waste water system and are expected to be turned off for at least two weeks.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – Another 24 Rocky Mountain goats captured in the Elkhorn Mountains in Baker County were released last week on tribal lands at the base of Mount Jefferson. These join about 40 others from the first reintroduction of the goats two years ago in the central Oregon Cascades. Once a population of 50 or more goats is sustained for five years tribal members may hunt the goats on their lands.
HINES, Ore. (AP) – About 20 wild horses from Oregon will be offered for adoption Friday and Saturday at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake, Wash. The mustangs are 1-to-3 years old. They were taken from herd management areas in southeast Oregon in the Bureau of Land Management’s Adopt-a-Horse Program.
