MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Blake Beavan gave up two runs in seven innings and Trayvon Robinson drove in two runs to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins yesterday. Beavan scattered five hits, walked two and struck out one. Kyle Seager also drove in two runs for the Mariners, who have won 11 of their last 15 games. Next up: the Angels, starting tonight.

SEATTLE (AP) – Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson played just one quarter in his final tuneup before the regular season, so high-priced backup Matt Flynn led Seattle on a three scoring drives. The Seahawks closed out the second perfect preseason in franchise history with a 21-3 win over the Oakland Raiders last night. Seattle will open the regular season Sept. 9 at Arizona.

PROVO, Utah (AP) – Riley Nelson threw for two touchdowns and third-string quarterback Taysom Hill added another on his first collegiate pass as Brigham Young beat Washington State 30-6 last night to spoil Mike Leach’s return to coaching. BYU intercepted Jeff Tuel twice and sacked him three times while limiting Leach’s vaunted Air Raid attack to 224 yards total offense.

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) – Kyle Padron passed for 260 yards and a touchdown to lead Eastern Washington to a 20-3 victory against Idaho in the season opener for both teams last night. Padron, who completed 13 of 33 passes with an interception, got off to a successful start in his quest to become the second straight SMU transfer to star at QB for the Eagles.

SEATTLE (AP) – DeWanna Bonner scored 24 points, Samantha Prahalis added 16 and Diana Taurasi (tohr-AH’-see) had 13 to help the Phoenix Mercury beat the Seattle Storm 75-68 last night to end a 10-game losing streak. Bonner, who had 11 rebounds, scored 13 points in the second half to help Phoenix defeat the Storm for the first time in four games this season.

COUVA, Trinidad and Tobago (AP) – Fredy Montero scored in his fifth straight game to lead the Seattle Sounders to a 3-1 victory over Caledonia on Thursday night in CONCACAF Champions League play. Alex Caskey and Sammy Ochoa also scored for Seattle, 2-0 in Group 4 play. Kareem Joseph scored for Caledonia.
