PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland City Council is prepared to pay more than $150,000 in lost disability payments to firefighter Tom Hurley. The matter is on today’s agenda, although the city is still challenging the payout in the Oregon Court of Appeals. The Oregonian reports the city fired Hurley in 2007 when he refused to attend a firefighting retraining session after collecting disability payments for more than a decade for knee and back injuries. During that time he opened a restaurant in Portland and bar in Seattle.

BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife confirms a wolf from the Imnaha pack killed a cow recently in Baker County. The ranch manager says the remains of the cow were found Friday by Forest Service employees. The Baker City Herald reports it’s the first confirmed wolf depredation on livestock in Baker County since 2009.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – More than 400 employees have returned to their desks in the state Transportation Building in Salem after a two-year renovation project. The 61-year-old building will be open to the public Saturday for an open house to show off new features.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – A central Oregon man says three Great Pyrenees dogs used to protect sheep that graze in rugged terrain have been shot to death east of Prineville while they were on their owner’s property. KTVZ-TV reports investigators say the people involved in the shooting have been identified and the Crook County sheriff’s office has been in contact with the dog’s owner.
