In the latest shooting Sunday a Bethany man was critically wounded after threatening deputies with a knife. Deputies killed two armed Aloha men in June and July. Sgt. Bob Ray told KATU that deputies are trained to defuse a situation but sometimes they have to react to protect themselves or others.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene man could face the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder in the death of his father and his father’s domestic partner. Johan Stevon Gillette did not enter a plea at his arraignment yesterday and is expected back in Lane County courtroom next week. He’s accused of killing 73-year-old James Gillette and 71-year-old Anne Dhu McLucas on Friday on family property.

RIDDLE, Ore. (AP) – State Police say a Riddle man has been arrested after an investigation of the fatal shooting of a bull elk during bow hunting season. Troopers said they got a tip about a rifle shot near Riddle on the opening day in August of bow hunting season for elk and deer in the Douglas County area. Forty-two-year-old Jim Martin was arrested on multiple charges.

EDDYVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Bridge supports were demolished yesterday near Eddyville in the latest development in the over-budget, behind-schedule project to realign about six miles of Highway 20 through the Coast Range. The state is demolishing four bridges that are unstable because of landslides.
