The Siuslaw Vikings bested the Reedsport Braves in three games to capture the championship round at the 23rd annual Dunes Classic Volleyball tournament in Reedsport Saturday. Reedsport took game one 26-24 with the score reversed and game two going to the Vikings who also captured game three 15-10.
The Siuslaw Vikings had five runners in the top 15 for both the boys and girls at Saturday’s Murv Fanning Cross Country Invitational in Newport. Katy Potter was the individual winner for the girls, followed by Courtney King in 4th and Katelyn Wells in seventh. For the boys, Brian Schofield was third and Randall Greenburg was fifth. Three interceptions helped the Reedsport Braves to a 14-nothing football win over Neah-Kah-Nie Friday night in Rockaway. In Sisters, Saturday afternoon, The Condon-Wheeler Knights ran past the Mapleton Sailors 52-12.
On the college Gridiron, the Oregon State Beavers Defense smothered the former number 13 ranked Wisconsin Badgers at Reser Stadium Saturday afternoon… the Beavers came out on top 10-7 to start their season. In Eugene Saturday evening Kenjon Barner ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns as number four Oregon cruised to a 42-25 win over the Fresno State Bulldogs.
