CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Congressman Peter DeFazio questions Chinese diplomats for urging the mayor of Corvallis to convince a local business owner to take down a mural advocating independence for Tibet and Taiwan. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that Chinese diplomats in San Francisco complained in a letter to Mayor Julie Manning and sent two top officials to Corvallis to press their case. Manning told them that freedom of expression is protected by U.S. law. DeFazio said yesterday he’s appalled Chinese diplomats haven’t read the U.S. Constitution.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two people have been shot and a man has been arrested after a shooting in North Portland. The Oregonian reports a man shot at people inside car in a park early this morning. Police say the gunfire hit one man in the back and another man in the shoulder. Both were taken to an area hospital and their conditions are not yet known.

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (AP) – Officials say things are expected to be back to normal today at Lake Oswego High School, which was evacuated yesterday after a tree fell on a nearby power line. That sent a surge through the electrical system and started a small fire in the building. Everyone left the building safely and no injuries were reported.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A skydiving company has sued the city of Creswell contending the city’s no-parachuting rules at the municipal airport have cost the company more than $700,000 over the past six years. The Register-Guard reports that Eugene Skydivers accuse the city of violating a lease agreement when city officials outlawed parachute landing at Hobby Field in 2006.
