Local Sports – Beaver “D”; Ducks lose two leaders; Prep Volleyball

Taking a Look at Coast Radio Sports…

After struggling all last season, Oregon State’s defense appears to have righted itself.  The Beavers made a season-opening statement with a 10-7 victory over then-number-13 Wisconsin; holding last year’s Big Ten champions scoreless until the final minutes… and allowing only 35 yards rushing.  Oregon State has this weekend off.

Meanwhile, in Eugene, The Ducks are two games into the season and they’ve already been dealt a blow with injuries to offensive guard Carson York and free safety John Boyett.  Both are fifth-year senior leaders; York injured his right kneecap and had to undergo season ending surgery.  Boyett revealed this week that he had tendon damage to both knees that will likely end his career.  Number four ranked Oregon will host Tennessee Tech Saturday.

Looking at the prep schedule today… Siuslaw is on the road to Newport where they’ll have a three-way non-league volleyball matchup against the Cubs and Junction City.  Reedsport will be in Gold Beach and Mapleton is at Eddyville.
