Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Army reservist has asked the Oregon Supreme Court to resolve a conflict between his orders to deploy to Afghanistan and his local probation requirements. The Oregonian reports that if Cpl. Derrick McDonald doesn’t join his Army unit by next week, he could be prosecuted and dishonorably discharged. But if he does, he’ll violate terms of his probation and could face arrest when he returns. He was sentenced to five years’ probation and sex offender treatment after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor sex offenses.

SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – Smoke from a forest fire just a few miles uphill has made the air unhealthy in the Central Oregon town Sisters. The level of small particles in the air was high in the morning both Tuesday and Wednesday, and reached hazardous levels. The Bulletin of Bend reports the National Weather Service says little change is expected into next week.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A timber sale in Southern Oregon has put industry representatives into two camps, large and small. The Portland-based American Forest Resource Council, which wants larger trees in the sale, says it violates several laws and has filed an administrative appeal. The Southern Oregon Timber Industries Association says it understands those objections, but the sale of smaller logs is what local mills need.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Smithsonian Institution is announcing a seven-city tour to showcase the Congressional Gold Medal awarded in 2011 to Japanese American veterans from World War II. The tour begins in January, and one of the stops is planned for Portland at the Oregon History Museum.
