SEATTLE (AP) – Taylor Teagarden stroked a pinch-hit RBI single to right in the 18th inning to help give the Baltimore Orioles a 4-2 comeback win over the Seattle Mariners last night. The win allowed the Orioles to pull within a percentage point of the Yankees for the lead in the AL East. The Yankees were rained out yesterday and will play a split double-header with Toronto today.
SEATTLE (AP) – Tina Thompson scored 10 points to become the first WNBA player to reach the 7,000 for her career and help the Seattle Storm beat the Chicago Sky 75-60 last night. Ann Wauters scored 16 points, Katie Smith added 13 and Ewelina Kobryn had 12 for Seattle. The Storm, who already have clinched a ninth consecutive playoff berth, snapped a four-game losing streak.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Washington State coach Mike Leach has declined to say who would be his starting quarterback on Saturday when the Cougars host Colorado. Jeff Tuel started the first two games of the season, but had an injured knee and did not play against UNLV last week. Connor Halliday started in his place and led the Cougars to a 35-27 victory.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Timbers have added Scott Angevine (ann-juh-VINE’) to shore up their goalkeeping situation. Timbers starter Donovan Ricketts and backup Jake Gleeson sustained injuries over the weekend, prompting the club to pluck Angevine from the MLS league pool. The 23-year-old joined the Timbers yesterday ahead of their road trip to San Jose and Salt Lake City.
