LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) – The Coast Guard and state Ecology Department responded to a diesel leak from a ship moored near Longview that caused a half-mile long sheen on the Oregon side of the Columbia River. The Coast Guard says a crack in the fuel tank was patched yesterday afternoon, but agencies are working with contractors to remove the fuel and threat to the environment.
HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) – The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area says firefighters are making good progress against a wildfire east of Hood River. Interstate 84 remains open, but one eastbound lane is closed at milepost 66, just east of Hood River. The Mark O. Hatfield bike and pedestrian trail through the Mosier tunnels to Mosier is closed.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office says no charges will be filed against the driver of a tractor-trailer that struck and killed a bicyclist in downtown Portland. Prosecutors say they found that the collision this past May was an accident. The bicyclist who died was 28-year-old Kathryn Rickson.
CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – Deputies caught a man cutting streetlight wires near Clackamas and say he surrendered after a police dog bite persuaded him to come out of a blackberry bush. Clackamas County deputies say the wire theft suspect caused about $600 damage for about $40 worth of wire.
