EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a 50-year-old man fired a shot that barely missed a motorist’s head in a road rage incident in Eugene. OSP Master Sergeant Lang Hinkle says Lawrence Allen Michael fired the gun during the morning commute yesterday near the Glenwood interchange. The 41-year-old victim called 911 to report the incident, saying the suspect had taken the Glenwood exit off the freeway immediately after the shooting. Michael was found at his job and arrested.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County district attorney and a defense attorney face potential sanctions from the Oregon State Bar over their handling of a mentally ill man’s aggravated murder case. State bar spokeswoman Kateri (KAYT’-er-ee) Walsh tells The Oregonian that the bar’s Professional Responsibility Board decided Saturday to charge the two lawyers with ethics violations. A three-person panel will hear the bar’s case against District Attorney Rob Hermann and defense lawyer Robert Axford.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The union contract between longshoremen and the companies that operate six grain terminals in the Pacific Northwest expires Sunday, threatening to disrupt the shipment of wheat, corn and soybeans to Asia. Neither side has commented on how the daily talks are going. A spokesman for the Pacific Northwest Grain Handlers Association declined to say if there are plans to boost security or hire replacement workers if there is no deal by Monday.
BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Nike says its fiscal first-quarter net income fell 12 percent as higher sales of its clothing and footwear brands was offset by higher costs and increased ad spending. Results beat expectations but shares fell nearly 4 percent in aftermarket trading. Nike, like other consumer products makers, is facing high costs for materials and labor. The Beaverton, Ore.-based company has raised prices and cut costs in response.
