OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Police say racial slurs touched off late-night fighting aboard a TriMet bus, and three people were stabbed. All are expected to survive. Oregon City police say the attacker was shouting slurs late Tuesday, but the exact targets weren’t clear. The bus driver was stabbed in the stomach, and two passengers were stabbed five times each. Another passenger was bitten. Police used a stun gun to subdue 19-year-old Austin William Vanhagen. He was booked on assault and weapons charges.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The FBI says a medical examiner has concluded the death of a 33-year-old Warm Springs man was a homicide. The agency identified the victim yesterday as Jonas Andrew Miller. It said his body was found Sunday on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. The agency said it wouldn’t say more about the killing.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The driver of a party bus from which a Portland girl fell and died wasn’t licensed to drive the bus and there were no other adults on board. The company that employs the 61-year-old driver had licenses for four vehicles, but the bus wasn’t one of them. The Oregonian reports the company, Five Star Limousine, had recently received a permit to operate in Portland. Eleven-year-old Angie Hernandez died Saturday night after tumbling from the vehicle’s emergency window.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – As marijuana legalization efforts in Colorado and Washington pick up steam, a similar push in Oregon seems to be going up in smoke. More than $4 million has flowed to Washington and close to a million in Colorado. Organizers in Oregon look at a bank account with less than $1,800. The struggles are surprising in a state with one of the nation’s highest rates of pot use and a reputation for pushing the boundaries on marijuana laws.
