Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) – A worker who fell 200 feet from a Longview bridge into the Columbia River is presumed dead. The Cowlitz County sheriff’s office says another worker saw the man fall yesterday from a platform under the middle of the Lewis and Clark Bridge, which connects with Rainier, Ore. The Daily News reports the Coast Guard and boaters who searched the river were unable to find him.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – More than 30 Oregon criminal cases are under external review to determine if investigations were tainted by handwriting analysts employed by the Oregon State Police. Problems with handwriting analysis in a Umatilla County case led to the suspension with pay of two analysts last spring. Analysts for the last three years have examined evidence in an average of 80 cases per year across Oregon. The work might be handwritten wills, checks, notes in robberies, threatening letters or personal notes.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A popular Pendleton playground has been heavily damaged by fire. Firefighters responded Saturday to a call that the large castle-like play structure at Pioneer Park was ablaze. The East Oregonian newspaper reports the flames were stopped before they consumed the entire castle, but most of it was burned or collapsed. The fire marshal says it wasn’t a natural fire, but he has yet to find evidence of arson.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Jeannette Faber of Portland burst into tears as she crossed the finish line in the Twin Cities Marathon in St. Paul Minn. Yesterday. She won the women’s race with an unofficial time of 2:32:38, a personal record. Faber and men’s winner Chris Kipyego of Kenya each won $15,000 for their first-place finishes.
