Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – High winds have closed the Highway 101 Astoria-Megler Bridge near the mouth of the Columbia River. Highway officials say the bridge was closed indefinitely last night because of winds affecting construction platforms and equipment placed on the bridge for painting and maintenance. Drivers are detoured to the Highway 30 bridge between Longview and Rainier.

WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (AP) — No students were injured when a bus carrying 20 members of the Crook County High School cross-country team home from Portland collided with a horse near Warm Springs. KTVZ reports the students were checked by medics at the Warm Springs fire station Saturday night and either picked up by parents or taken on to Prineville. The horse was killed.

VERNONIA, Ore. (AP) – A 12-year-old boy is recovering from burns to his face and hands after carrying his grandmother to safety from their burning home in Vernonia. Seth Cutright tells KATU-TV that he could smell gas from a leaking propane heater but didn’t know what it was just before his grandmother, Rose Cutright, lit a cigarette and ignited the blaze on Friday. The two are recovering at the Oregon Burn Center in Portland.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – A 76-year-old man is dead after a house fire in Milwaukie. KGW-TV reports that the fire erupted early yesterday in a house full of debris. Investigators found Eric Youngfellow’s body after using heavy machinery to remove burned remodeling debris and household products from the home. Natural gas flowed from a broken supply line and fed the flames, which took more than two hours to put out.
