Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio State and Oregon have agreed to a home-and-home series with games to be played in 2020 in Eugene, Ore., and in 2021 in Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes and the Ducks have met eight times, including in the 2010 Rose Bowl game, a 26-17 Ohio State win. Ohio State will play in Eugene on Sept. 12, 2020, with Oregon playing in Columbus on Sept. 11, 2021.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon has lifted the suspension for senior defensive tackle Isaac Remington. The decision came after The Register-Guard newspaper reported that Eugene prosecutors had decided not to pursue a driving under the influence charge against Remington. Remington was pulled over on Oct. 12 and cited for DUI. Oregon coach Chip Kelly suspended him indefinitely, “pending clarification of the incident.”
UNDATED (AP) – Quarterback Sean Mannion will start for No. 7 Oregon State against Washington on Saturday, less than three weeks after undergoing a surgical procedure on his left knee. Mannion missed two games after he was hurt in an Oct. 6 victory over Washington State in Seattle. The 6-foot-5 sophomore was injured during a handoff, and an MRI revealed the need for surgery to repair the meniscus in his knee.
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) – One of the last things that might come to mind when most people think about Stanford is a spread-option formation and a running quarterback. Now times really are changing without Andrew Luck this season. With Josh Nunes struggling to find consistency, Stanford coach David Shaw has started to mix things up more at quarterback. Not so much because he has lost confidence in the redshirt junior but rather because backup Kevin Hogan has just been that impressive.
PHOENIX (AP) – Oregon State is off to its best start since before World War I, undefeated and up to seventh in the BCS rankings. All that has done is keep the Beavers on pace with second-ranked Oregon in the Pac-12 North Division. Heading into the final five weeks of the regular season, the Pac-12’s division races are heating up. The North will likely come down to the two Oregon schools, though both have some tough games left, including each other in the Civil War. No. 9 Stanford is still in the mix, too, just a game behind at 3-1. In the South, No. 10 Southern California has bounced back from its conference-opening loss to Stanford and now has a half-game lead after Arizona State was routed by Oregon.
SEATTLE (AP) – It might be the easiest scouting report Brad Jackson will ever put together. The task this week for the new assistant men’s basketball coach at Washington was to give a detailed breakdown of the Huskies’ exhibition opponent on Wednesday night, defending Division II national champion Western Washington. Just so happens that Jackson knows the Vikings perhaps as well as anyone. He was the head coach at Western Washington for the previous 27 seasons, capped by leading the Vikings to their first national title last season. Jackson and new boss Lorenzo Romar will face Jackson’s former team tonight.
