CATHLAMET, Wash. (AP) — An autopsy is scheduled today on the body of Wahkiakum (Wah-KIA-kum) County Sheriff Jon Dearmore, who fatally shot himself yesterday. The sheriff of neighboring Cowlitz County, Mark Nelson, is investigating. He says Dearmore may have been despondent over medical problems related to a lingering injury suffered in the line of duty years earlier.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Medford police they have received roughly 80 tips in the shooting death of a cab driver, but are still searching for a suspect. Police say the suspect in the death of 58-year-old William Roy “Huey” Huson is described as about 6-foot-1, 180 pounds and 25 to 35 years old, with a fair complexion and an acne-scarred face. The gunman man is believed to have hailed the cab late Saturday night outside a downtown Medford bar.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Two women from the Salem-area community of Sublimity have been given one-year suspended sentences for abusing horses. The Statesman Journal reports that Janet Spears and Rachael Frazeur were charged after several horses and a foal were found suffering from extreme malnutrition and abuse. One horse had to be euthanized.
BEND, Ore. (AP) — The murder trial is under way in Bend for a 62-year-old man accused of killing his 28-year-old son last December in a fight at their home in Tumalo. KTVZ reports Jim Hargrave broke down in tears yesterday as testimony began about the death of his son Steven Hargrave. If convicted, Jim Hargrave would face at least a 25-year sentence.
