PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Port of Portland says cargo ships are planning to bypass the city because of a strike threatened Sunday by marine terminal security guards. The Oregonian reports that replacement workers will be called in, but members International Longshore and Warehouse Union plans to set up picket lines. Talks with a state mediator are planned Saturday.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former Marine staff sergeant has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography while stationed in Afghanistan. At his federal court hearing in Portland, Ore., Corey McAdoo of Vancouver, Wash., said he took full responsibility for his actions. The Marines removed McAdoo from active duty and turned him over to the FBI to face federal charges in Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Four bridges across the Willamette River in Portland have been listed this week in the National Register of Historic Places. The Oregon Department of Transportation says the Broadway, Burnside, Hawthorne and Morrison bridges represent a range of technology used nationally during the 20th century. The oldest of the four, the 1910 Hawthorne Bridge was originally built for horses and street-cars.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Several Oregon ski areas will be open in time for Thanksgiving. Timberline Ski Area on Mount Hood plans to open most of its lower mountain lifts today. About a foot of snow fell there Monday night, bringing the base total to 27 inches. Several chairlifts are expected to operate through the holiday period if weather permits. Mount Bachelor plans to open tomorrow and Mount Hood Meadows plans to open this weekend.
