SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Two firefighters and a passer-by were taken to a hospital after a house fire yesterday in Salem. The Statesman Journal reports the passer-by saw smoke coming out of the residence and reported the fire. The person was treated for smoke inhalation. The firefighters suffered minor injuries. The family who lives at the home was not there at the time of the fire.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An autopsy is scheduled today on the body of a woman found dead in a Southwest Portland apartment last night. The Oregonian reports that police are calling the death suspicious, but are releasing few details of the case. The apartment was surrounded by crime scene tape and homicide detectives and forensic evidence experts were called to the scene after the body was discovered.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A water pipe broke in an Oregon State University science building last week, causing an estimated $500,000 in damage. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports the hot water pipe broke last week, spilling water into the building for up to three hours. Some offices had one to two inches of water on the floor. Repairs are expected to take up to three months.
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Fishery managers have approved four razor-clam digs in what has become a holiday season tradition for people near the Oregon-Washington border. The Daily Astorian reports more than 200,000 clam diggers have descended on the Washington state beaches in recent years. Diggers are limited to 15 razor clams per day, and are required to keep the first 15 clams they dig.
