RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Marshawn Lynch’s tremor-causing playoff touchdown run two years ago against New Orleans has been viewed millions of times on the Internet. It will be hard for Lynch to ever top that run or that performance. But his slippery go-ahead touchdown run in the fourth quarter and 132 yards rushing last Sunday in Seattle’s wild-card round win over Washington may come close. When it comes to the opening-round of the playoffs, Lynch has given Seattle some memorable performances. But when he got to the divisional round two years ago against Chicago, he was held to just 2 yards rushing on four carries in what remains his least productive game of nearly two-plus seasons with Seattle. He’ll get a chance to atone for that Sunday in Atlanta.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – A Pac-12 investigation found no evidence of physical or mental abuse of players in the Washington State football program. The findings of the independent review were released yesterday and mirrored the findings of Washington State’s own internal review of the allegations. Former Washington State receiver Marquess Wilson contended near the end of last football season that players were suffering physical and mental abuse at the hands of coaches. Wilson, who quit the team, subsequently recanted his allegations. But university President Elson Floyd asked the school and the Pac-12 to investigate.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – For months, Caleb Porter has been torn by his loyalty to the Akron Zips while waiting to take over as coach of the Portland Timbers. Porter was hired as the Major League Soccer team’s coach in late August, but he wrapped up his seventh season with Akron before fully making the move. He guided the Zips to an 18-1-3 record, the Mid-America Conference championship and into the third round of the NCAA tournament. It was the sixth straight season Akron had made it to the tourney.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State will hold a pair of track and field meets this spring, the first such events at the school since 1988. The Beavers will debut their new Whyte Track and Field Center on March 23 with a meet that will include fellow athletes from the University of Portland and Willamette University. The Beavers will also host the inaugural OSY High Performance meet April 26 for regional college athletes as well as open and club qualifiers. Oregon State has not hosted a meet since 1988.
