Let’s start with Far West Girls Basketball… North Bend pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 49-32 win on the court in Florence Friday night, leaving the Viking girls still winless in league play, tied with South Umpqua at oh-and-four… the two teams meet Friday. Elsewhere in the Far West, Sutherlin remains undefeated… they beat Douglas 53-37. Brookings-Harbor routed South Umpqua 73-18. // Reedsport fell to Bandon Friday night, 47-40; and Mapleton beat Alsea 48-23.
For the Boys, North Bend put on a 15-4 run in the second quarter and never looked back for a 54-33 Far West win in Florence. Brookings upset South Umpqua 69-54; and Sutherlin ran over Douglas 73-28. Siuslaw, Brookings, Sutherlin and South Umpqua are all tied for second, at two-and-two, behind North Bend. // In Bandon, the Reedsport Braves beat the Tigers 53-39; and in Alsea, the Wolverines beat the Mapleton Sailors 73-61 in overtime.
The Oregon Men are looking down on the rest of the Pac-12. Dana Altman’s 21st ranked Ducks are 5-and-oh after beating number 24 UCLA 76-67 Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. Across town, Aaron Fuller’s only basket of the night, a layup with 4.8 seconds remaining lifted USC to a 69-68 victory over Oregon State. The Beavers are still looking for their first conference win.
