Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…
A short-handed Viking wrestling team managed to tie with Woodburn for fourth place at the 11-team Nick Lutz Invitational in Florence Saturday. Newport won the team title, followed by Elmira and Cottage Grove. Siuslaw had four individual champions… Luke Carroll at 145; Hayden Miles at 152; Turner Wykoff at 182; and Ryan Connor at 285. Miles was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the upper weights for his efforts… he won his first three matches by fall, then claimed the championship with a convincing 17-10 decision over Newport’s Dalen Hargett.
Other results for Siuslaw at the meet included 5th place finishes for Tyler Coolidge at 126; Travis Dahlberg at 145 and Cameron Matthew (tie) at 182. Andrew Tupua was 6th at 138.
Athlete of the Week
Siuslaw wrestling standout Ryan Connor is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. He continued his dominance at 285 pounds last week, pinning one opponent in 21 seconds in a Far West dual meet; then capturing the title in his weight class at the Nick Lutz Invitational. Honorable Mention goes to Hayden Miles who not only won his weight class at the Nick Lutz, but was also named the outstanding wrestler in the upper weight brackets.
Prep Basketball
On the schedule tonight… Mapleton Sailor basketball is on the home court against Lowell… The girls game is up at 5:30, followed by the boys. Both will air on Coast Radio Sports.
