Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Jordan Loera had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Jillian Alleyne added 15 points and 17 rebounds yesterday as Oregon defeated Washington State 65-60. The Ducks, who had lost six in a row, never trailed in the game and have both of their conference wins against the Cougars. They beat Washington State 70-68 on Jan. 25 in Pullman, Wash., for Oregon’s first sweep of the Cougars since 2008. Lia Galdeira led Washington State with 19 points and Mariah Cooks contributed 11 points.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers’ season so far could probably best be described as an enigma. The Blazers have fared better than expected as a rebuilding team. But there are still so many questions. The Blazers are 25-28 and come off the All-Star break with a five-game losing streak. They are three games behind Houston for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and a half-game up on the Los Angeles Lakers. They’ve relied heavily on their starting lineup: ever-steady All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, rookie Damian Lillard, Nicolas Batum (bah-TOOM’), Wesley Matthews and J.J. Hickson.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – T.J. Oshie and Andy McDonald each scored in regulation and in the shootout to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks last night. Patrik Berglund also scored for St. Louis, which swept its three-game road swing after losing five straight games. Blues rookie goaltender Jake Allen made 28 saves and stopped the Canucks’ Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows in the shootout. Kesler and Henrik Sedin (seh-DEEN’) had their first goals of the season and Mason Raymond also scored in regulation for Vancouver, which has lost two straight after winning six in a row.
