PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Wesley Matthews had 24 points, including a clutch 3-pointer with less than a minute to go, and the Portland Trail Blazers snapped their longest losing streak of the season at seven games with a 92-86 win over the Boston Celtics last night. J.J. Hickson’s hook shot put the Blazers ahead 86-80, but a pair of reverse layups from Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass pulled the Celtics to 86-82 with 2:54 left. Pierce had 23 points and eight assists for Boston, playing its third game in four nights.
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) – Chiney Ogwumike (ah-GWOO’-mih-kay) scored 27 points, grabbed a school record 24 rebounds and set a Stanford career mark with her 52nd double-double yesterday, leading No. 4 Stanford to a 74-50 win over Oregon. The Cardinal won their 12th straight game since suffering a 67-55 loss to Cal on Jan. 13 and stayed tied atop the conference standings with the Bears. Freshman Jillian Alleyne had a double-double for the Ducks with 12 points, all in the second half – and 10 boards.
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) – Layshia Clarendon scored 26 points and No. 6 California rallied from 17 points down in the first half to beat Oregon State 58-56, extending the longest winning streak in school history. Clarendon did most of her work in the second half, including an off-balance 14-foot leaner that gave Cal a 57-51 lead with just under 4 minutes remaining. The Bears didn’t make another basket after that but held on for the win. Jamie Weisner had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Oregon State.
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – Arielle Roberson had 16 points and senior Chucky Jeffery grabbed 13 rebounds in her final regular-season home game, helping No. 20 Colorado hold on for a 68-61 win over Washington in front of an energetic crowd that braved blizzard conditions to arrive at Coors Events Center. The Buffaloes won their seventh straight game as they took a step closer to securing one of the first-round byes for the conference tournament. The Huskies were led by Kristi Kingma, who scored 19 points.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Taryn Wicijowski had 22 points and nine rebounds yesterday and Utah won its final home game of the season, defeating Washington State 59-47. Iwalani Rodrigues scored 17 points and Michelle Plouffe scored 11 for the Utes. Rodrigues and Plouffe also had five assists for Utah, which overcame a slow start by finishing the first half with a 17-4 run to lead 29-24 at the break. Lia Galdeira was the only player in double figures for the Cougars, scoring 14 points.
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – Raul Ibanez (rah-OOL’ih-BAHN’-yehz) hit a three-run homer off former teammate Freddy Garcia to spark a five-run first-inning and lead the Seattle Mariners to an 8-3 win over the San Diego Padres yesterday. Ibanez sent a sinker over the right field wall for his first homer of the spring. Mike Morse and Michael Saunders followed Ibanez with back-to-back doubles before Garcia recorded his first out. Robert Andino and Kyle Seager each went 2 for 3 with a run scored for the Mariners.
