PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Reggie Evans grabbed a career-high 26 rebounds and matched his career high with 22 points, and the Brooklyn Nets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 111-93 last night. It was the Nets’ 20th road win of the season, matching a franchise best. Brook Lopez added 28 points for the Nets, who built a big lead early and stretched it to as many as 30 points. LaMarcus Aldridge led Portland with 24 points despite rolling his right ankle in the first half and briefly leaving the game.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Isaiah Thomas had 31 points and seven assists, DeMarcus Cousins added 14 points and the Sacramento Kings put another dent in Golden State’s playoff chase by beating the Warriors 105-98 last night. Marcus Thornton scored 13 points off the bench and helped harass Stephen Curry to send Sacramento to its first road win against a team with a winning record all season. The Kings entered the game an NBA-worst 6-30 on the road. Sacramento won the season series 3-1.
(AP) – In three seasons, the Oregon Ducks have progressed over the array of post-season tournaments, from the CBI, to the NIT and now the NCAA. Dana Altman has guided Oregon over those three seasons of improvement. Tomorrow, the surprising 12th-seeded Ducks will face top-seeded Louisville in the round of 16 in Indianapolis. The Nebraska native was hired by the Ducks in the spring of 2010 to replace Ernie Kent, who was dismissed after 13 seasons at his alma mater. Altman is 73-36 at Oregon.
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) – There is no need for Lindsay Gottlieb to mention the Final Four every day. Sure, it’s on the minds of every one of her California players now that they are two victories from that elusive program first and a trip to the Big Easy. The second-seeded Golden Bears survived a late-game rally by South Florida for an 82-78 overtime win Monday night in Lubbock, Texas, and up next is No. 6 seed LSU on Saturday night in the Spokane Regional semifinals.
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – Felix Hernandez allowed three runs in six innings in his last start of spring training, helping the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-7 yesterday. Clayton Kershaw, also tuning up for opening day, pitched three innings and gave up three runs and five hits. He faced only 15 batters for the Dodgers. Kershaw gave up a two-run home run to Seattle’s Michael Morse, who has eight. Kendrys Morales, Dustin Ackley, Jesus Montero and Robert Andino each had two hits for Seattle.
