SEATTLE (AP) – Michael Morse hit an opposite-field two-run homer, his third home run in four games, Aaron Harang pitched six solid innings for his first win and the Seattle Mariners won their second straight series with an 8-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles last night. Harang retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced and took a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning.

SEATTLE (AP) – Right-hander Blake Beavan has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma by the Seattle Mariners, and the team recalled left-hander Lucas Luetge to add depth in the bullpen. The Mariners made the roster moves yesterday before playing Baltimore in the finale of their seven-game homestand. Beavan became expendable when the team traded for Aaron Harang.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has been unanimously chosen the NBA’s Rookie of the Year. Lillard, the sixth overall pick in last June’s draft out of Weber State, led all rookies with a 19-point scoring average. He also averaged 6.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds, playing in all 82 games this season.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Dan Boyle and Patrick Marleau scored in the third period for the San Jose Sharks, who rallied to beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-1 last night in the first-round Western Conference series opener. Boyle and Logan Couture both had a goal and an assist, and Marleau pushed San Jose’s lead to 3-1. Antti Niemi made 28 saves for the Sharks.
