SALEM, Ore. (AP) – State economists say a slow, steady economic recovery means the Oregon treasury will take in more money than previously expected. The quarterly forecast released yesterday said revenue from tax collections will be up by more than $270 million since the last projections three months ago – which anticipated $16.6 billion in revenue over the next two years.

COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – A Bandon midwife who had a baby die under her watch in 2011 has pleaded guilty to recklessly endangering another person. The World reports Marcene Rebeck received a five-year deferred sentence as part of a plea agreement. The Coos County district attorney dropped manslaughter and negligent homicide charges.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The last of 13 defendants has pleaded guilty to federal charges for his role in the collapse of a Bend real estate development company. The U.S. attorney’s office said Jeffrey Sprague of Bend pleaded guilty yesterday to charges related to the collapse of Desert Sun Development. Sprague admitted that he caused his former employer, West Coast Bank, to lose more than $2.6 million on fraudulent loans.

SCOTTS MILLS, Ore. (AP) – After a search in rural Oregon failed to yield any trace of missing Utah mother Susan Powell, authorities say they may close the investigation. Wayne Pyle, who is city manager in West Valley City, Utah, said yesterday that leads in the case have dried up in the three and a half years since Powell vanished. Police searched for her this week near Salem.

A response filed in Marion County Circuit Court says Kinkel has exhausted his appeals and it’s too late to overturn his 112-year sentence. Kinkel was 15 when he gunned down his parents at their home and went on a shooting spree at Thurston High School where two were killed and 25 wounded.

KATU-TV says neighbors reported seeing heavy smoke pouring from the back of the two-story house. Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis says crews tried to enter through the front door but heat and smoke forced them back.

It also bans bosses from forcing employees to access their social media accounts in front of them.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have signed fullback Spencer Ware to a multi-year contract, leaving the team with just three unsigned draft picks. Seattle announced the signing of its sixth-round pick yesterday. Terms of Ware’s deal were not announced. Ware is being moved from running back, his position at LSU, to fullback.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon judge has sentenced a Nevada couple who received $229,000 in unjustified payments from state and county agencies and an insurance company. The Oregonian says Lakisha Muhammad yesterday received five years in prison while her husband, Donte Muhammad, got three years. The couple managed to buy a Las Vegas home in a gated community. Court documents say the Muhammads received Oregon housing, welfare, food stamps and other assistance at several Portland-area addresses before moving to Nevada.
